What are sick visits?

Sick visits are appointments focused on addressing a current illness or injury. When your child is hurt or not feeling well, a sick visit can move them toward relief. While many childhood issues can be addressed during routinely scheduled office visits, sick visits provide a way for you to connect with your child’s practitioner without advance scheduling. This can make a world of difference when your little one is uncomfortable. Main Street Pediatrics offers state-of-the-art technology for comprehensive viral and bacterial respiratory panels.

Sick visits are a good reason why routine physical exams (well-child visits) are so important. No one is at their best when they feel poorly, including children. Parents who only bring their kids in to see a medical professional once serious symptoms arise risk having their kids associate health care with physical or mental distress.

Routine well-child and teen wellness exams allow your child to get to know and trust their practitioner. If and when a sick visit is necessary, their experience will be far easier to manage because your child will already feel comfortable with their practitioner.

Partnership Based On Trust

We help you in your goal to ensure that your child’s health never falls below the peak condition. So, your expectations may be high, but we always work hard to reach further. If you seek attentive and accessible care for your child, then our pediatrics clinic is the place for you!

How do I know when to bring my child in for a sick visit?

When considering whether to come in for a sick visit, it helps to think about whether or not your child’s symptoms can wait for a routinely scheduled visit. If the answer is no, a sick visit is probably the right course of action. You should never feel bad about wanting the best for your child. Coming in for a sick visit can help your child feel better as quickly as possible. This is not only good for them but also goes a long way toward soothing the natural parental anxieties that come with caring for a sick child

Of course, there are situations when emergency room care is the best course of action. If your child has uncontrolled bleeding, clearly broken bones, loss of consciousness, or shortness of breath, seek emergency medical attention immediately.

What kinds of conditions can be treated in a sick visit?

Main Street Pediatrics can provide treatment for numerous issues during a sick visit. Some of the conditions that bring kids in for these acute care visits include:

  • Cold and flu symptoms
  • Fever
  • Minor abrasions and lacerations
  • Sprains and strains
  • Allergic reactions
  • Skin rash
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Constipation or diarrhea

These are just a few of the conditions your provider can treat during a sick visit. When your child needs prompt care, Main Street Pediatrics is here to help.

Main Street has been amazing! From the front desk to the back. Everyone makes you feel so welcome! Savannah is so sweet, comforting & encouraging. The approach to individualized care is top notch. Our newborn has had two visits since giving birth a week ago and we already feel like family. So glad Pell City has a great place to go to for everyone’s littles. Definitely gives mamas & daddy’s peace of mind!

Love the staff! Always friendly and the doctors actually care. However, I would like for the rooms to have nursing chairs and nursing pillows like other places for breastfeeding moms and babies.

From checking in to check out, the staff is super great. They know you by name and are so kind & friendly. Front desk ladies are hands down the best. Mariah and Savannah are great with the kids. Savannah is very thorough. My girls feel comfortable here, and they make going to the doctor something that’s tolerable rather than dreaded.
